Fiat money

Fiat currency is a legal tender regulated by the government of the respective country and central banks. These include traditional currencies such as the euro or US dollar. The value of the respective currency usually depends on the economic and political strength of the government. The term “fiat” is derived from the Latin verb fieri and means “to become” or “to arise”. The term fiat money was developed to differentiate it from cryptocurrencies.
