The challenge
The challenges of this business model are manifold:
- International payments: Investors from all over Europe invest in different projects. This means that payments have to be made across national borders, which requires complex handling of the different national tax systems.
- High number of transactions: As many projects are running simultaneously and each project sometimes has over 1,000 investors, an enormous volume of transactions must be processed securely and efficiently.
- Regular repayments: In addition to the initial investments, interest and amortisation amounts must be repaid to investors on a regular basis. This also includes the automatic calculation and payment of taxes and capital gains due to the tax authorities.
The solution and cooperation
As a specialist for platform and marketplace payments with many years of experience in crowdfunding and crowdinvesting, secupay ensures the convenient, fully digital onboarding of new issuers, including legally compliant identification in accordance with the German Money Laundering Act (GwG).
Registered investors can invest in their favourite projects by direct debit or prepayment. All payments up to the maximum financing amount are collected by secupay in an insolvency-proof escrow account. As soon as the amount specified by the project initiator has been reached, secupay transfers the bundled amount to the project company. Other parties involved, such as consultants or intermediaries, can also be taken into account and paid out on a pro rata basis.
During the project term, secupay takes over the payment of interest and redemption amounts to the investors at the desired intervals. Capital gains tax (including solidarity surcharge and any church tax due) is automatically calculated and paid to the tax office. If a project does not reach the targeted financing amount, secupay ensures the secure repayment of the funds across national borders.
